Deanne Stillman is a widely published, acclaimed writer and her plays have won prizes in festivals around the country. Her latest book Mustang was an LA Times “best book 08,” won the California Book Award silver medal for nonfiction, appeared on various “best of” lists, and is now under option for a film and documentary. Her book Twentynine Palms was an LA Times “best book 01,” praised from Maxim to Asian Journal, a finalist for a SCIBA nonfiction award, and Hunter Thompson called it “A strange and brilliant story by an important American writer.” It’s now out in a new, updated edition, and has been added to many college literary nonfiction courses and under option six times. She’s currently writing a new book based on her Rolling Stone article, “Mojave Manhunt,” which appeared in Best American Crime Writing 06 and was a PEN West finalist for best journalism. Deanne’s work has appeared in Orion, Tin House, Slate, the NY Times Magazine and Book Review, the LA Times, and many anthologies. She is a member of the core faculty at the UC Riverside-Palm Desert MFA Creative Writing Program.
