Conceived in December 2008 as a collective effort of MFA students, The Whistling Fire provides a forum where fresh voices share creative works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. We encourage writers with an eye toward publication to submit their works or works in progress, as we wish to showcase a diverse array of styles and voices.
We encourage our readers to comment on posted works in the spirit of constructive criticism. Positive feedback is always welcomed; constructive literary criticism is encouraged. Our aim is to encourage the writing process.
Please enjoy our site and share us with your literary-minded friends. The Whistling Fire is updated regularly with fresh works by new writers. Come back often and see what’s new.
We look forward to reading you,
TWF

I am interested in submitting chapters from a story I have been working on, my concern is that there is some profanity in it. Do you have guidelines on what material is acceptable to submit and what is not?
Naomi,
Our only guideline in order for publication on TWF is that it is done well. If it is all profanity and no story then we may have a problem. The editors at the TWF are fairly profane people. If you read our archives you will see we have published sexually suggestive work as well as work containing cursing. Please do keep in mind though if you are submitting chapters that we have a word limit.

Thanks for the opportunity to both visit the site and submit. Saw your notice through CROPPS.
Please consider my memoir for criticism/review.

Many thanks
Laura,
We do not provide criticisms or reviews, we are a literary journal and our purpose is to publish works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. If you wish your work to be published, you must submit it through the appropriate channels following our submissions guidelines.

Hi,
I’m a member of crwoppes and I received an e mail requesting submissions to guest editor Rick Martel.
Are there any length restrictions? If accepted, is it strictly online publication, or does Whistling Fire go to print as well?
Thank you. I have a CNF that might fit the bill….
Karen
Karen,
All requirements for our Guest Editor Theme are included in the rules which were in the crwopps advertisement and all information about the Guest Editor themes are also on our Guest Editor page, you will see the large graphic link on the right hand side of every page. TWF is an online journal, we publish work twice a week.
