The War Of Northern Aggression

The War Of Northern Aggression
she says with sweet sincerity
showing off the shell of a once grand building
for some yankee visitors
trying to recreate
for the yankee visitors
the grandeur the beauty of what was lost
before The War Of Northern Aggression
the silk wall paper
the shiny oak floors
the imported china
the beautiful clothes
the view, the gardens
an ideal life lost
all because of The War
Of Northern Aggression
never mentioning
the slaves the chains
pointing out
the beautiful bricks
of the garden paths
even that cannot be recreated
she laments
the recipe lost
when the slaves dispersed
following The War Of Northern Aggression
what a crime
she smiles sweetly
almost forgiving us.
