and look at us in paint
on canvas as they
would in the 18th
century. Then I will put
a dog in the corner
to tell the world, in 200 years
when our faces are pulled
out of the Nantucket Municipal
Museum basement, that we
were loyal to each other.
Maybe I will paint
a mirror so I can see
painter in paint. And each
day we can come to
this room
and sit
in one place
with the small
bottle of cyan blue
that will be used for your dress
and the silky folds
around your long legs.

I love this poem. The “cyan” used for her dress is incredibly vivid.
